Here is another contest for student reporters, this time for Business Reporting, sponsored by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. Entry deadline is Feb. 1, so the deadline is fast approaching.
The SABEW Best in Business (BIB) contest was started in 1995 to help set standards and recognize role models for outstanding business journalism.
The 2007 Best In Business Contest is for work published during calendar year 2007. The contest opens Dec. 14, 2007 and the entry deadline is Feb. 1, 2008.
BIB 2007 Student Contest Rules
To recognize the good work being done at many colleges interested in business journalism, in 2005 SABEW added a Student Contest to the annual Best in Business contest. SABEW invites students to submit their best work.Rules
The judges will pick two winners: one for the best business story in a student publication and one for the best business story in a professional publication. The winner will receive $250 plus a scholarship to attend the 2008 SABEW Annual Conference, April 27-29 in Baltimore, MD.
Published articles must have a strong business, economic or financial angle. SABEW judges will make the final determination as to whether the submitted work meets this standard. Campus publications or web sites, as well as professional publications, are acceptable.
Each student is limited to one submission.
As part of the Student Contest entry form students must enter the contact information of the editor (or instructor) who validates the originality of the student’s work. An electronic copy of written verification from the editor/instructor must be included within the attachment file. This could be a PDF, Word, or TXT file that clearly attests to the originality of the student’s work and provides the contact information for both the student and the instructor. See Sample Letter of Written Verification.
Entry Fees
Free for SABEW members.
Any student who is a SABEW member (either an individual member or an institutional member through your journalism school) may submit one entry at no charge.
Students who are not SABEW members must first join SABEW then enter the Student Contest.
